Is That Really Ethical?

The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, one of the "hallowed" reference texts for "serious" musicians, contains an uncharacteristically large article on the subject of "borrowing." But fine is that line between borrowing and outright thievery! In any case, music literature is far richer because of such practice, and we will dip our toes into that vast body of repertoire.
